Selection Sunday will be on March 12, 2006. ESPN will televise the women's selection show beginning at 5 p.m. (ET) while CBS will televise the men's selection show at 6 p.m. (ET). Game times will be announced shortly thereafter.
What Are The Game Times For The Men's And Women's Final Four?
The first men's national semifinal on Saturday, April 3 will begin at 6:07 p.m. (ET). Time buffer between games is 40 minutes. The men's national championship game will air at 9:07 p.m. (ET) on Monday, April 5. The first women's national semifinal will begin at 7 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, April 4. Time buffer between games is 30 minutes. The women's national championship game will air at 8:30 p.m. (ET) on Tuesday, April 6.
Why 65 Teams In The Men's Tournament?
In 2001, the men's tournament field expanded because 31 conferences received automatic bids, two more than in 2000. The committee selects at 34 at-large teams. The two teams seeded 64 and 65 play in an "opening round" game the Tuesday before the first-round games. The winner of this game moves into the championship bracket as a No. 16 seed.
